Power Bank & Lithium Battery Rules on Indian Flights

Last updated: 6 Jul 2026Reviewed by Ms. Rubab Nizami, Lead AVSEC Faculty

In short

Power banks and spare lithium batteries must travel in cabin baggage only, never checked. Up to 100Wh is allowed freely; 100–160Wh needs airline approval; above 160Wh is forbidden. Since 2025 several Indian airlines also bar using or charging power banks in flight and require them kept in the seat pocket, not the overhead bin.

Can I use a power bank during an Indian flight?

On several Indian airlines you may no longer use or charge a power bank during the flight, following 2025 safety advisories. The power bank must stay switched off and within reach in the seat pocket, not in the overhead bin.

What is the power bank watt-hour limit?

Up to 100Wh is allowed without approval. Between 100Wh and 160Wh you need the airline's approval and are usually limited to two spares. Above 160Wh, power banks are forbidden for passengers.
